Jorge Luis Berrios
Jorge Luis Berrios is a Boricua poet, MC, and spoken word artist based in New York City with extensive experience as an actor, writer, and director. Born in Puerto Rico, he moved to New York in 2008 and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre from the University of Puerto Rico. He has worked as a drama and poetry facilitator with multiple organizations in New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico.
As a writer and director, he has been involved in El Puente C.A.D.R.E.’s Air Quality project “Breathe.” Since 1994, Jorge has performed in theater, film, and TV, directing and production shows in Puerto Rico. His career expanded internationally, joining Tabula RaSa in New York City to perform in cities like Busan, South Korea, and Bogotá, Colombia. He continues to collaborate with Tabula RaSa NYC Theater in current creative processes for upcoming presentations.
Since 2017, he has performed his poetry in multiple venues in the city and online, sharing his work with audiences worldwide. As a CRNY resident artist at El Puente from 2022 to 2024, he produced “Encuentros,” a series of events aimed at building community, healing, and inspiring artists, residents, and attendees. During this residency, he published a zine called “Poemas al Turey, Memories of Borikén” and was featured in an anthology. In 2024, he will publish a book called “Encuentros,” featuring poems performed during his residency.
