The Collaboration
The Hamilton Hill Arts Center worked with Lumumba Ansah, Bianca Dilella, Alisa James-Polite, Maya Lewis, Arriama Matlock-Abdullah, Jordan McClendon, and Jermaine Wells in three separate teams: visual arts, media, and dance and drumming. The visual arts team employed Maya and Bianca to teach art to the children in their after school program and to create public art in Schenectady. This team completed two public works of art inside two public parks and held three art exhibits. The media team was responsible for creating films that reflected stories from throughout the African diaspora. They created the film “Clearly” and developed the cartoon “Wiley and the Hairy Man.” They also formed the Black Art and Film Festival, a new yearly event for the Hamilton Hill Arts Center. Umoja, The African dance and drum team taught African dance and drumming to local children and adults free of charge.
The Organization
The Hamilton Hill Arts Center is a small community center that makes a powerful impact. Our mission is to promote the knowledge, preservation, and continued development of the art and culture of the African diaspora. We do this through free and low-cost classes for children and adults focusing on the African diaspora.
