Maria de la Paz Galindo
Originally from Pinotepa de Don Luis, Oaxaca, México, Maria is a woman of Mixtec heritage who has called the Bronx home for the past 33 years. In this diverse borough, she has not only raised a loving family of three but has also become an integral part of the community.
Maria’s passion for photography has been lifelong. However, it was the discovery of the Bronx Documentary Center that truly ignited her artistic journey. Here, she honed her skills and developed a profound interest in street and documentary photography. Her first workshop at the BDC in 2019 marked a significant moment, equipping her with the tools to authentically capture the essence of her community.
Beyond her photographic pursuits, Maria is a dedicated community organizer. Collaborating with various organizations, she channels resources towards the betterment of her beloved neighborhood. At the heart of her mission lies a belief in the transformative power of education, not only for immigrants but for the broader community as a whole.
