Adriana Poulette
Adriana Poulette (Tsyoy^thu) Tsyoy^thu means “she’s planting again.” Adriana is an Oneida/Mi’kmaw woman practicing beadwork for over 18 years and quillwork for the past seven years.
Adriana practices Iroquois raised beadwork–the technique of sewing the beads so they have a three dimensional effect. Both her Oneida and Mi’kmaq backgrounds influence her quillwork. Her beadwork and quillwork designs are reflections of different plants and flowers, water and sky elements, nature’s small creatures, and birds. Her quillwork is inspired by both Iroquois style quillwork art as well as Mi’kmaq style quillwork. She wants to honor both sides of her family with her work. It is her understanding that she has a responsibility to share what she has learned with other Onkwehonwe (Indigenous) people so that her knowledge is shared with future generations.
